Egis: Line 16 of The Grand Paris Express

The legendary metro system in Paris is in rapid growth in a massive expansion called Grand Paris Express. The new Line 16 covers 25 km in the North East of Paris.
The French engineering group Egis is working as general contractor for the systems and the infrastructure of Line 16. This new metro line cover 25 km from Noisy-Chanps to Saint-Denis-Pleyel North East of Paris. The line will include nine metro stations, whereof three are defined as iconic. It will also include thirty-four ancillary works/shafts.
The automation of the metro will permit to have an interval of only three to four minutes between each train. The rapidity of the circulation will be optimised thanks to the speed of the trains that will go up to 110 km/h. The opening of the first part of the line is planned for 2024 for the Olympic games of Paris and the second and the third parts of the project will continue until 2030. The cost of the line 16 is 3B€.
The complexity of the Line 16 project is extensive. It needs to meet high level requirements for the transport system (operation & maintenance), for the comfort of the travellers, for the sustainable design (natural ventilation and lighting) and for the integration in urban areas in transition and the challenge is to deliver the line in a short time. The project is also the occasion to deploy a fiber network into the infrastructure of the metro that will serve the neighbourhoods around the line.
Bimsync is mainly used on this project for the construction phase, in order to simplify the interactions between all the entities (project owners, project managers, contractors, architects etc). It servers as the main tool for the project management team to manipulate and consult the models created by the contractors. The Bimsync platform is also used during the design phase to speed up and improve several workflows.
In order to use the full potential of Bimsync and have a good organisation of the information for a project of infrastructure, each station and each ancillary work of the line is displayed in his own Bimsync project. This “user oriented” structure helps to clarify the access to the information and simplify the visualisation of the 3D models. Bimsync is one of the main tools where the information is available, and where the problems are discussed.
Bimsync represents a useful tool for our project. It allows every participant to have a direct access to the information. It is also a great opportunity for our company to illustrate and deploy the BIM culture among our collaborators. The simplicity of its functionalities and the fluidity of its manipulation make the BIM understandable and the 3D models accessible for everyone.
