For Norway´s largest construction fair, Catenda has asked Jonathan Dunn, Chief Engineer from ILF Consulting in Switzerland to join our CEO Håvard Brekke Bell for a conversation about measurable advantages of using Open BIM in infrastructure.
- Time: 13.30 Wednesday 16th October
- Place: Main Stage at Bygg Reis Deg, Lillestrøm
“Bimsync has been really good for us. It is really intuitive, a lot of people in the project are using it on a daily basis. It works well, the coordination is intuitive, and it has been fascinating to observe how our workflows are changing with the use of the model as the project hub,” Jonathan Dunn from ILF says.
BIM processes in Switzerland have been adopted primarily in building and architectural construction, but through the Brüttener Rail Tunnel project, BIM is seriously being introduced into the Swiss world of infrastructure as well. The results so far has lead to Switzerland now aiming to use BIM for all projects as of 2025.
The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and ILF Consulting Engineers is carrying out ambitious efforts on Open BIM, applying Open BIM to the 8.25 km long Brüttener Rail Tunnel in Switzerland. The estimated cost of the tunnel is 1 billion Euro. The large four-track tunnel will have a capacity of 900 trains per day.
SBB had a clear preference for open BIM, the universal approach for designing, documenting, and exporting building models based on both proprietary and non-proprietary software certified for open standards and workflow, developed by the buildingSMART organisation network.
