At the steering group meeting for the buildingSMART Norway Project, at SKANSKA’s headquarter in Stockholm, Ilkka Romo showed an impressive range of prosseses where SKANSKA is utilizing the advatages of BIM.
It ranged from compressed scheduling of production, better cost control, better visual marketing and element libraries.
The hope is that this will only increase the use of open international standards, like the buildingSMART standards, not closed proprietary solutions, as this will benefit SKANSKA the most in the long term. Ilkka Romo said part of the BIM usage was through the buildingSMART standards, but not all. Specifically they did not trust the quantity take off (QTO) from the current Ifc based solutions.
Good thing, then, there is already an Aquarium on QTO, using buildingSMART standards.
